in washington. >>> some breaking news. late word that president obama will meet tomorrow with congressional leaders for one more shot at keeping the country from going over the fiscal cliff. before we get the latest on that, though, let's clear one thing up. everyone talks about the cliff as if it's simply materialized from out of the blue. keeping them honest, that is just not so. the package of drastic budget cuts and tax increases that go into effect tuesday morning are totally manmade and totally avoidable and all sides know it. it's a kind of legislative dooms day machine written by the men and women who work here and signed by president obama. the idea being to make it so painful not to cut a deal on taxes and spending that they would be forced to cut a deal on taxes and spending. except keeping them honest, they haven't done it. even though they knew the stakes, they knew the deadline, and both sides promised that this time things would be different. >> we need to return to fiscal responsibility. >> how is it that we're going to be able to do that? getting our fiscal house in order.

for households making $1 million. so movement from both sides. cnn's dan lothian in washington with the latest on this. good morning, dan. >> good morning, john. the big question, can speaker boehner sell this proposal to house republicans? this is very dramatic, president obama had always dug in, saying there was no deal unless taxes went up on households making more than $250,000. now the president raising that to $400,000. this new proposal or counterproposal coming during a meeting at the white house between the president and speaker boehner yesterday. it lasted 45 minutes. in addition, the president proposing $1.2 trillion in new revenue. down from 1$1.4 trillion and 1$2 trillion in spending cuts. this meets the demand that speaker boehner had for an equal amount of spending cuts to revenue. but house republican aides say while this is a step in the right direction, they don't believe the president's math really adds up. brendan buck says a proposal that includes $1.3 trillion in revenue for only $930 billion in spending cuts cannot be considered balanced. so still some distance here betw

washington. >> hello everyone. i am dana perino. welcome to the five. it has been 48-hours since the shooting. the first funerals were held for 6-year-old classmates noah pozner and jack pinto has been laid to rest. he joins us now. >> good evening from sandy hook elementary. we remember two of the youngest victims today. you mentioned noah pozner age 6. he just celebrated a birthday only a month ago on november 20th. he was considered a lively and smart kid. that's how his uncle described him. that was one of two funerals today. get this, dana, noah had a twin sister. her name was ariel. she was in the school at the time of the shooting but she was in a different classroom. these two were said to be inseperable in life. ariel made it out okay. the other funeral for young jack pinto also age 6 a huge sportsmsports fan a big new york giants fan. he was recognized yesterday by wide receiver victor cruise who wrote rip jack pinto rest in peace on his cleats also jack pinto my hero the words of victor cruise that contacted the family. there's likely a meeting between that family and

with a hammer, so say the police. according to the washington post, the shooter had no social media profile. one former classmate said he had been home schooled for a time before attending the local high school. but, again, the investigation to the shooter is on going and a complete profile may not emerge for days or weeks yet. investigators hope to learn as much as they can by learning of the survivors of the massacre. today, we learned that two adults survived friday's shooting instead of the one that was previously reported. also, contrary to some earlier reports, a state police spokesperson says the shooter had no connection to the school either to his mother or to himself. sandy hook elementary school is closed indefinitely. school officials say it's unclear if the school will ever reopen. moving trucks were seen outside the school this morning. moving furniture and supplies to a vacant school in a neighboring town. in newtown today, the first two funerals for victims, both of them 6-year-old boys, noah pozner and jack pinto. jack was buried in a new york giants football jersey. victor cruz

winter here, that they were planning on moving, that she thought about possibly going to washington state, possibly enrolling her son in a college there. we've been able to trace a little bit of his academic history, wolf. we can tell you, right now, there is no known connection to the sandy hook elementary school. he first appears in public records as a freshman in high school back in 2007, and at that time, we spoke to a security director, who said that adam lanza immediately was identified as a child that needed to be watched. not because he was a threat to other people, that he was so gawky and so awkward that security officials felt that others may be a threat to him. so not only did they keep an eye on him, but also he was, at that time, assigned a school psychologist. he left that school in about 2008. he enrolled in classes at a nearby university, just about 15 minutes from here. he was taking computer science, macro economic, american history. this is a 16-year-old kid, mind you, he was taking those classes. in 2009, he just fell off the grid, never went back to the school. he to
